2nd time this happened..coincidence?

I’m a trusting guy. So when I see a trail on a map I tend to believe it exists in real life. Although I should of known better seeing it was put together by a government entity. Bottom line, I lost the trail at no fault of my orienteering skills (I think) and ended up hiking/trailblazing for a few miles with my bike. I can’t decide what my favorite part was. Where the 2 foot brush turned to 5 foot brush or where my bike got tangled in barbed wire. Regardless it was a great day outside with some bike descents through sagebrush that I’m fairly certain hadn’t seen a Specialized before. When I did finally make it home I was more burnt out than Yellowstone in ’88. Time to rest up and consult my map for my next ride, trails or not.

If your ship doesn’t come in…

….then take out a PayDay loan and bribe the longshoremen to give you another ship. I think that’s how the old time saying goes. Times are tough. So tough in fact that I ‘ve decided to turn my empty dinner place setting into useful tools to actually put food on the table. My first attempt is making a fishing lure out of my soup spoon. Hopefully, the steelhead are craving the soup du jour formerly know as my silverware. Off to the rivers. If the spoon fails to put dinner on my table I have plans for a bear trap made out of sauce pan and an potato peeler.

**********UPDATE**********

After a weekend of drowning the spoon in icy waters I’m happy to report it was a success. The recession is over and my dinner plate is no longer empty. Here are some pics of the fish fooled with the Slabbin’ Spoon.

The Southeast Arm

In a fishing book I once read that the Southeast Arm of Lake Yellowstone was the most remote place in the Lower 48, aka paradise. My mind instantly filled with images of apex predators establishing dominance by means of maximum carnage. As I close my eyes I see, Grizzlies Greco Roman wrestling over a 1,000 lb elk carcass beneath a 5,000 foot cliff. Meanwhile behind a full moon, the Delta wolf pack is atop the cliff howling what I can only compare to a Coldplay song. Cougars drape from every open pine branch. Eagles the size of F-16′s cruise the sky waiting to snatch one of the 30″ trout from the river below.
Safe to say that the Southeast Arm greatly intigues me. It’s one of those spots on the map that you can’t help but stare at. Someday I’ll load up a kayak and paddle down there. Can’t say for sure whether I’ll be greeted by ravenous carnivores and trout big enough to eat me, but the solitude and fresh air are reason enough to venture into the mysterious Southeast Arm.

Thinkin Problem

The year was 1994 and David Ball catapulted to #2 on the charts with “Thinkin Problem” While it was a money song I refrain from calling Ball a one hit wonder. I only classify hits as reaching #1 on the charts. I mention this tune because I have a thinkin problem, although it isn’t about some lassie I obsess over. Instead my mind jumps around more than Leonel Marshall on a volleyball court. I tend to envision or think about the absurd and impossible and block out the monotony of the 9-5 lifestyle. Most times even if I had the Hubble telescope surgically implanted into my cerebellum I still think I’d have trouble focusing on everyday tasks. To me there is always something bigger, better, badder, and butteryer. Whether I’m a “dreamer”, “ADHD dude”, “goofball”, or “tool” it’s my new mission to channel these thoughts and ambitions into a station of unlimited possibilities. And for that I’ll need a new life universal remote. A new way to look at pursuing my dreams and say screw the rest. This may sound cheesier than nachos at a baseball game but my greatest fear in life is being disappointed with my past…..Oooh a shiny object, gotta go.

Six update

Not sure but I think this grainy photo shows Six putting in infrastructure by laying pipe in the Mammoth area. Further, there are rumors that Six will be in charge of Obama’s Infrastructure stimulus package. Other talk around the watercooler say Energizer is going to scrap the bunny and throw some drums on Six for their commercials because he keeps going and going.

Sidenote: As I write this it’s 10:06.

Scruffy McScrufferson

I’m having a premid life crisis here folks. This is probably my 3rd one this year. These tremors are the precursor to the large quake of the full blown midlife crisis I expect in my 40′s, when I purchase an ’88 Vette (license plate “2long4U”), wear Oakley M Frames 24/7 – 365, chew Trident mercilessly, and snap my fingers to songs on the radio. For now, thankfully, these tremors just involve daydreams about the future of my life and the world. It should also be noted that these tremors are laced with ADHD. I have a hard time taking much seriously, let alone myself. That being said, I wonder if I might be happier retreating to the woods and relying on my own sustenance. Seriously, I wouldn’t have to hear about politicians, cable bills, gas prices, and all the other babble out there. Now I’m not envisioning being some kook in the woods. I see it as a tree choppin, stew makin, front porch sittin, slingshot shootin, nature enjoyin person. Ah, I digress, back to paperwork. For now the vision of Scruffy McScrufferson will only manifest on this lame blog.

Yellowstone Travel Guide

Operation Yellowstone was a success. A few observations. According to intel from Kevin of Ohio, the buffet is the only edible food in the joint and you’d be a fool to have any other side than fries. Watch out for the Morning Glory’s at Old Faithful Lodge….can lead to risky bitness, or so the locals say. Fannie packs are not only cool, but useful. Sasquatch is real. The North Slope of DRP is heaven on Earth. Bison have mastered the “stink-eye”. When looking for bears, don’t forget the half-eaten philly in your backpack. Any rock can be climbed, but getting down isn’t a sure thing. One wrong turn in the Grizzly Maze and Stilskin, brother of Rumple, will be all over you.

I have a new idol, and his name is 6. For those of you who don’t know who 6 is, I suggest you educate yourself. He’s the lifeforce of Yellowstone. He was put on this Earth to do one thing and one thing only, slay. To learn more go here.

On a serious note…I learned it’s not the size of the lens in the zoom it’s the size of the zoom in the lens.

On our next mission to Slough Creek, I won’t be without a Grizzly Suit. Thanks Troy.

Coordinates Unknown

Attention faithful AP visitors…ok there aren’t any followers let alone faithful ones, but it sounds credible. The AP world is taking a short hiatus. I’m going off the grid on a covert mission with IBM Beigedown. We’ll be air dropped into the heart of Yellowstone. Fear not for we’ve been trained in whatever we may encounter, be it snorkling in Morning Glory pool, soaking our clothes in honey, plucking bison’s eyebrows, or floating down the Yellowstone in duck kayaks. I can’t release any further details but will have recon photos and a debriefing when/if we return.
